Bicycle Tour of Chai Mountain
Apart from mountain hiking, Chai Mountain and Shou Mountain are now also popular spots for recreational cycling. The steep slopes and winding trails mean that a bicycle helmet and a mountain bike equipped with shock absorbers are basic requirements. It is recommended to be fit and possess good cycling skills. There are beginner and advanced routes. The more you ride, the more you experience all the fun this form of recreation can provide.
Recommended Cycling Routes
Chaishan Village - Seaside Route: This route begins behind Sun Yet-Sen University. The road begins its ascents and descents, so cyclists not equipped with bicycles with gear systems should be prepared to get off and walk the steeper stretches. You'll have to turn back at the military checkpoint, located just past the Chaishan Village. The scenery on the return trip is spectacular and awe inspiring.
Shoushan Nature Park -Mountain Ridge Route: Go up the mountain from Yuanheng Temple and take the road that circles the mountain, you will pass the zoo on the way. You may return through Hamasen or pass behind Sun Yat-Sen University on the return from the Hsitzuwan Bay direction. The uphill section is steep, with many curves, so a bike with shock absorbers is a must.It will help you maintain your balance and enhance comfort through the rough stretches.
※The seaside route passes through a restricted military area but by climbing up the mountain from Yuan Heng Temple this may be avoided.
